Art Carmichael celebrates 50th year as a Kiwanian! - 04/11/2017

April 5th 2017 marks Art Carmichael's 50th year as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Los Altos.  Our Honors Page tells the story of Art's many awards and accomplishments as well as his love and dedication for Kiwanis.  We are honoring Art this year with the honor of being the Los Altos Kiwanis Pet Parade Grand Marshall on May 20th!

Kiwanis Guest Speaker, Maha Elgenaidi - 03/23/2017

Maha Elgenaidi was our featured speaker on February 28th.  Maha is the founder of Islamic Network Group, whose mission is to counter prejudice and discrimination against American Muslims by teaching about their traditions and contributions in the context of America’s history and cultural diversity, while building relations between American Muslims and other groups.  Maha will be speaking again in a forman moderated by Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian.  For more information:

Eyeglasses (old) can be donated to Loyola K-Kids... - 03/16/2017

The Loyola K-Kids Club, sponsored by the Los Altos Kiwanis Club, has surpassed 1,000 eyeglasses collected in its Annual "Share Old Spectacles" Drive.  The drive continues through the end of May.

If you want to donate old eyeglasses that you are no longer using, you can drop them off in boxes like the one pictured, at:

Mike Fong, Election Division Coordinator at Registrar of Voters, Santa Clara County , joined  our Kiwanis Meeting today to talk about the  results of the courier work our Club  did for the last election.  Our happy/sad dollars were spent sharing the best stories with our fellow Club member Traci ,  who is moving out of the area.  Traci's contribution to the club was huge, providing support for scholarship committee, Pet Parade, Special Games and our ROV Courier projects to name a few. We will miss you Traci!  Best wishes with your new adventures!

Last Weekend of the Tree Lot 2016! - 12/16/2016

Our Club's biggest fundraiser of the year is winding down this weekend. We highlight 2 unsung heros for this Project: Art Carmichael and Paul Van Buren.  Art is strategic, behind the scenes every step of the way: at set up, trouble shooting during the Season and at our close when everything is packed up neatly and stored until the next Season.  Paul took a hiatus this year from his normal position as weekend cashier and focused on analytics and marketing.  Below is his final post of the Season found on NextDoor.  Thank you Art and Paul!

Tree Lot Opens on Friday! - 11/23/2016

Located at 2175 Grant Road in the Lucky Parking Plaza,                                                Our beautiful trees have arrived!  We will be opening our Christmas Tree Lot on Friday, November 25th at 10am.  We have Nobel Fir & Nordman Trees ranging from 2ft to 12 feet.  We also have wreathes center peices and accessories.  Our Tree Lot fundraiser supports our scholarship and community grants programs.   We look forward to seeing new and old customers this holiday season.  visit our Kiwanis Tree Lot website for hours, map and  more...

Kiwanis Los Altos helps out serving pancakes at the Loyola Walkathon - 10/20/2016

October 15th, the Kiwanis Club of Los Altos joined the Loyola Elementary School Walkathon in making pancakes for the Walkaton participants, both parents and students .    Bob, Derek, Peter, Martha, and Howard, pictured above, along with Buzz and Doris, served up some yummy pancakes complete with toppings.

Kiwanis Club of Los Altos honored several members this year.  Paul Van Buren received the 2016 Kiwanian of the Year Award.  Members  Howard Bischoff, Bob Galen, Peter Bergsman, Doris Padilla, Traci Hatling, and Julie Felice all received Distiguished Service Awards for their outstanding service to Kiwanis during 2016.  Congratulations to each outstanding member of the Club!

Connie Johnson of the Honor Flight Network and Dick Abbott, retired WWII Navy veteran joined Derek Lubich and Kiwanis Los Altos Club  on Tuesday August 23rd for a talk on the Dick's trip to Washington DC as part of the Honor Flight Network.  You can read more about the organization here.

Hello Members and Friends,  So much going on in Kiwanis!

I attended the Division 12 and Divsion 34 Council Meetings this past week to share  updates on the planning for Special Games .  I also learned of some awesome events going on in our Clubs:

March 28th, Manie Kohn, Drone Operator will be visiting and speaking with the San Carlos Kiwanis Club.

April 16th is our Regional Training Conference at LAUMC.

April 2nd, our Los Altos Club will join with the Palo Alto Kiwanis Club in a day of Service at the Palo Alto Duck Pond!

Douglas Roberts Receives Award - 12/04/2015

Los Altos Kiwanian Douglas Roberts was a recipient of a 2015 Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Community Volunteer Service Award at a presentation on December 4, 1915, for his work with the Mountain View Day Workers Center, the Los Altos United Methodist Church and of course Los Altos Kiwanis.

Supporting the Community Services Agency - 11/23/2015

Today, as a part of our Annual Holiday giving, Los Altos Kiwanis delivered 84 chickens to the Community Services Agency in Mountain View in preparation for their food distribution.  We will be doing even more for CSA in the New Year.

Kiwanis grants Tech Trek a scholarship for one girl - 11/11/2015

Marge Bruno of Tech Trek visits to give Kiwanians an update on the non-profit that runs a science and math camp designed to develop interest, excitement, and self-confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall. The grants committee then gave Tech Trek a check for $850, good for a scholarship for one girl for this summer's program. For more information on Tech Trek, visit their home page.
