On a warm May evening, the Los Altos Kiwanis Club gathered at Don Giovanni's for one of the club's most meaningful traditions: the Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner. Twelve outstanding local students were honored with $2,500 scholarships - $30,000 in all - celebrating their academic excellence, community service, and character alongside their families, Kiwanis members, and community supporters.
Scholarship Chairman Robert Henely welcomed the honorees, reflecting on what these young scholars represent: "You represent the next generation of leaders. We are proud to play a small part in your future."
The evening's guest speaker was Club President Dr. Decai Sun, whose own career in photonics and semiconductor technology gave the students a living example of where curiosity and persistence can lead.
Every scholarship dollar awarded that night traces back to a single beloved Los Altos tradition: the Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot, which generates roughly $60,000 a year to fund scholarships, grants, and community programs. Special thanks go to Martha McClatchy, Peter Bergman, Diane Rush, and Doris Padilla, whose year-round dedication to the Tree Lot makes evenings like this one possible.

The Kiwanis Club of Los Altos Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, believes strongly in helping the youth of our community continue their education after high school.
The Kiwanis Club of Los Altos Foundation is here to support your journey with our College Scholarship Program!
What’s the deal? We’re offering scholarships to students like you who are planning to enroll at an accredited two or four-year college. This is your chance to make your college dreams come true!
Who are we looking for? We’re seeking students who have shown:
A spirit of giving back through community service or other selfless acts
Determination to learn despite financial or other challenges
Plans to attend an accredited institution within the next year
How does it work? Each scholarship for a four-year college is worth $2,500 and can be used for tuition, fees, books, and other necessary expenses. The funds are spread out over three academic quarters or two semesters. We release the first installment of the money after you have shown us proof of your registration for the first term and thereafter when you’ve shown us your transcript with satisfactory progress for the term just completed and proof of your registration for the next term.
Each scholarship for a 2-year college is $750.
